DIY Celebration Flags

DIY Hurray! Celebration Flags for Wedding Recessionals

I love confetti just as much as the next girl. In fact, I probably love it more… and order it by the pound. BUT there are some venues that are just not agreeable with confetti or rice or tossing anything of the sort. These simple hand lettered flags are a fun alternative for guests to wave after the big ‘I DO’ as you dance your way out of the ceremony. They’re simple to make, look dynamite with almost any decor theme, and are *almost* as much fun as confetti.

Here’s what you’ll need to craft your own:

  • Dowels (can be found in packs from the dollar store craft section)
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Scissors
  • Flour sack tea towels
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Fine round paint brush

First things first, cut out your flags. Cut them a little longer than you want them (to account for affixing them to the dowel). You can use regular old scissors for this and leave the edges raw. When they’re cut to size, go ahead and run a bead of hot glue and press onto the dowel. Run another bead of hot glue and wrap the flag around the dowel (it should look like the flags are sewn on, no dowel showing).

When your flags have been assembled- it’s time for the fun part! Get painting. We freehanded these and love how they turned out all a little bit different. If you wanted a consistent look, you could get a stencil made but if it were my choice- I’d do this, way more fun!

Hurray! You’re done. Now do 50 of them and get excited for how much fun it will be to see them all happily waving in celebration!
